Registration groups and related services

Service providers are required to be registered with the NDIS to ensure quality services meet the NDIS standards, compliance requirements and service needs of people with disabilities to an level that is expected.

This group includes services like 

Respite stay (STA), Supported Independent Living (SIL), Short Term Accommodation (STA), Medium Term Accommodation (MTA), and Individualised Living Options (ILO)

· What it covers:

This group focuses on providing support to participants living in group or shared living arrangements, helping them with daily tasks and developing independent living skills. 

· Examples of services:

· SIL: This includes support with personal care, meal preparation, medication management, and other daily tasks within a shared living environment. 

· STA/MTA: This covers short-term and medium-term accommodation, often used as a transition or respite option. 

· ILO: This provides support tailored to an individual's specific needs and preferences, allowing them to live as autonomously as possible in a living arrangement of their choice. 

· Registration:

Providers in this group are required to undergo Certification audits, according to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. 

125—Participation in Community, Social and Civic Activities

  This encompasses services that help NDIS participants engage in community, social, and civic activities. This includes supporting participants during these activities and developing their ability to participate independently. It also includes assistance with travel/transport arrangements, if related to participation in these activities. 

· Supporting participation:

This includes assistance with accessing and participating in various community activities, such as social events, recreational activities, and community groups. 

· Developing skills:

Services may focus on building skills that enable participants to become more active and engaged in their communities. This could include things like communication skills, social skills, and problem-solving skills. 

· Assistance with travel/transport:

This is included if the travel is specifically related to participation in community activities. 

· Provider types:

This registration group can be delivered by various providers, including disability support workers and those with experience in mental health or peer support, according to the NDIS. 

116—Innovative community participation

This focuses on supporting individuals with disabilities to engage in social, recreational, and community-based activities. It aims to enhance participants' skills, confidence, and well-being through tailored support and creative approaches to community engagement

· Promoting Social Inclusion:

This includes assisting participants to join community groups, attend events, and participate in social and recreational activities. 

· Skill Development:

Support workers help participants develop skills, build confidence, and improve their overall well-being through various activities. 

· Tailored Support:

Activities are tailored to individual needs and goals, with support workers providing assistance with transportation, and other necessary support. 

· Breaking Down Barriers:

The goal is to break down barriers to participation and promote inclusion in the community. 

· Unique and Creative Approaches:

Providers are encouraged to offer unique and innovative programs and activities to engage participants in new and meaningful ways. 

· Community Engagement:

This support empowers individuals to actively participate in their communities, build relationships, and pursue their interests.

This focuses on helping individuals with disabilities build essential skills to increase their independence and participation in everyday life. This group provides support in areas such as; building daily living skills, improving social and communication skills, and enhancing participation in the community. 

  • Assistance with daily tasks:

This could involve support with personal care, meal preparation, and other activities that help participants manage their daily routines. 

  • Skill development:

The group can provide support for developing various skills, such as communication, social interaction, and problem-solving, to improve overall independence. 

  • Community      participation:

It may also include support for engaging in social and recreational activities within the community, fostering a sense of belonging and social inclusion. 

This group aims to empower individuals with disabilities by building their capacity and enabling them to participate more fully in their chosen communities, according to the NDIS. 

136—Group and centre-based activities.

This includes services that support participants in engaging in organized group activities within a centre or community setting. These activities can be social, recreational, or educational, and are designed to foster social interaction, skill development, and community participation. 

· Activities within a centre-based environment:

This includes programs and services delivered at a fixed location, such as a community centre or day program, where participants can engage in group activities. 

· Group-based community activities:

This involves supporting participants to take part in recreational or social activities within the broader community, such as outings, events, or group workshops. 

· Skill development:

These activities often focus on building participants' social, communication, and daily living skills through structured programs and interactions with others. 

· Individualized support:

While delivered in a group setting, the services under this registration group may also include individualized support to help participants engage effectively and achieve their goals. 

· Examples:

This can include things like art classes, cooking groups, social outings, or sports and recreation activities, all facilitated within a group setting and more

120—Household tasks

This provides support to individuals with disabilities in managing daily domestic activities within their homes. This includes services like cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and other essential home maintenance tasks. The aim is to help participants maintain a safe, clean, and functional living environment, promoting independence and improving their overall quality of life. 

  • Cleaning:

This can include general house cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, and other tasks to keep the home tidy. 

  • Laundry:

Assistance with washing, drying, ironing, and putting away clothes. 

  • Meal Preparation:

Help with planning, preparing, and cooking meals, potentially including grocery shopping and meal delivery. 

  • Home Maintenance:

Support with minor tasks like changing light bulbs, fixing minor repairs, and general upkeep of the home. 

  • Yard Activities:

Some providers may also offer assistance with basic gardening and yard maintenance. 

  • Other Domestic Tasks:

Depending on individual needs, support may also be provided for tasks like bed making, dishwashing, and other daily chores. 

By providing these services, the NDIS aims to help participants live more independently and comfortably in their own homes. 

102—Assistance to access and maintain employment or higher education

  

This encompasses a range of supports designed to help NDIS participants find and keep jobs or pursue further education. This includes services that aid in job searching, interview preparation, workplace adjustments, and navigating the requirements of educational institutions. 

Specific services that may fall under this registration group include:

  • Job searching and application assistance:

Helping participants identify suitable employment opportunities, prepare resumes and cover letters, and navigate online application portals.

  • Interview preparation and practice:

Providing coaching and mock interviews to build confidence and skills for job interviews.

  • Workplace support and adjustments:

Assisting with workplace assessments, modifications, and accommodations to ensure a suitable and inclusive work environment.

  • Education support:

Helping participants access and succeed in higher education, including course selection, enrolment assistance, and support with academic tasks.

  • Career counselling and planning:

Providing guidance on career pathways, skill development, and long-term career goals.

  • Mentoring and peer support:

Connecting participants with mentors or peer support groups to provide guidance and encouragement.

  • Travel training and transport assistance:

Supporting participants to access and navigate transportation options to and from work or educational institutions.

  • Support coordination      related to employment and education:

Assisting participants in coordinating and managing the supports needed for their employment or educational goals. 

Essentially, this group focuses on empowering individuals to achieve their employment and educational aspirations within the framework of the NDIS, according to NDIS information. 

101—Accommodation and Tenancy assistance

  

This covers supports related to finding and maintaining suitable housing. This includes assistance with tasks like finding a place to live, understanding tenancy obligations, and navigating the application process. 

  • Finding Accommodation:

Helping participants locate and secure appropriate housing options. 

  • Tenancy Obligations:

Providing support to understand and meet the requirements of a tenancy agreement. 

  • Navigating the System:

Assisting with the application process, paperwork, and any issues that may arise during the search for or management of housing. 

  • Accessing Specialist      Disability Accommodation (SDA):

If relevant, this group can also help with the process of applying for SDA. 

Key points:

  • This group focuses on the      practical aspects of housing, rather than the physical modifications or      daily living supports that might be needed once in the accommodation. 
  • It's often a first step for participants      needing help with their living situation. 
  • While it covers assistance with finding and      securing housing, it generally does not cover the costs of rent,      utilities, or other everyday living expenses. 
  • Participants will      need to access other NDIS registration groups for support with daily      living activities within the accommodation. 

In essence, NDIS 101 helps individuals with disabilities to find, secure, and maintain appropriate and sustainable housing, empowering them to live more independently. 

106—Assistance in coordinating and managing life stages, transition and supports.

  

This encompasses services that help participants navigate major life changes and develop the skills to manage their supports and activities independently. This includes support for transitioning to independent living, managing household responsibilities, and accessing and coordinating other NDIS supports. 

Core Services:

  • Transitioning to Independent      Living:

This includes assistance in finding suitable accommodation, setting up a new living space, and developing the skills needed for independent living.

  • Managing Household      Responsibilities:

This can involve support with tasks like cleaning, meal preparation, and budgeting.

  • Accessing and Coordinating      Supports:

This includes help with understanding the NDIS, developing a support plan, and connecting with other relevant NDIS providers and services.

  • Developing Life Skills:

This focuses on building skills related to daily living, such as time management, problem-solving, and communication.

  • Building Capacity for      Self-Management:

The goal is to empower participants to manage their own supports and make informed decisions about their lives. 

Specific Examples:

  • A person transitioning from a group home to      their own apartment might receive support from a 106 provider to find a      suitable place, set up their utilities, and learn how to manage their      budget.
  • A participant needing help understanding      their NDIS plan and finding a suitable support worker could work with a      106 provider to navigate the process.
  • A      young person leaving school and entering the workforce might receive      support from a 106 provider to develop job-seeking skills and manage the      transition to employment. 

Key Features:

  • Focus on individual needs: Services are      tailored to the specific needs and goals of each participant.
  • Emphasis on empowerment: The aim is to      build participants' capacity and independence.
  • Connection      to broader supports: 106 providers often work closely with      other NDIS providers and community services to ensure participants have      access to a comprehensive range of supports. 

Note: NDIS registration group 106 requires NDIS certification, according to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission

107—Assistance with daily personal tasks/Activities

This group includes support for participants with their personal tasks like grooming, mobility, and toileting. It's a high-risk/certification support category, meaning providers registered under this group need to undergo a conditional audit. Specifically, if a provider is registered to deliver personal support under this group, additional conditions apply, especially when the participant lives alone. 

· Core Function:

This group focuses on providing support to individuals with disabilities to help them with essential daily personal tasks. 

· Examples:

Activities covered include assistance with personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, and toileting. 

· High-Risk Category:

Group 0107 is classified as a high-risk or certification support category, requiring a conditional audit for providers. 

· Additional Conditions:

Providers registered under this group, particularly when supporting participants living alone, must assess risks, monitor quality, and assess participant satisfaction. 

131—SDA—Specialised disability accommodation.

This encompasses services related to daily personal activities, life skills development, plan management, community nursing care, and household tasks. This includes support in areas like personal care, developing daily living skills, managing finances related to the NDIS plan, accessing community nursing, and assistance with household chores for high intensity clients who require specific support needs and accommodation facilities.

108—Assistance with travel and transport

131—SDA—Specialised disability accommodation.

  

This group provides support to help participants access and use various transportation options, enabling them to attend appointments, social events, and other activities. This can include assistance with public transport, arranging specialized transport, or providing financial support for travel expenses. 

· Purpose:

To help participants with disabilities access and utilize transportation services. 

· Scope:

Covers a range of transportation needs, including:

· Public transport guidance and support. 

· Arranging specialized transport services (e.g., taxis, accessible vehicles). 

· Financial assistance for travel expenses. 

· Benefits:

· Improved access to medical appointments, community activities, and social events. 

· Increased independence and participation in daily life. 

· Reduced barriers to community engagement. 

· Provider types:

Services can be provided by professional transport providers (like taxis) or by support workers assisting with travel arrangements.
